Soft Summer Tailoring with Stylist Marina Didovich

There can be many ways to tap into tailoring for the warmer months.

Subtle design details such as fit and fabric can make the right suit feel appropriate for year-long wear, while the injection of colour can bring a seasonal update to classic tailoring.

Here, stylist Marina Didovich shares three tailored looks she’s wearing for the summer ahead.

Since becoming a mum, my wardrobe has become a lot less fussy and more streamlined, which is why I'm gravitating towards soft tailoring. I also love the idea that it transcends seasons and has wardrobe longevity.—Marina Didovich

What suiting trends are you noticing this season?

Suiting in general is a huge trend this season. It's fantastic because no matter your style, it's a trend that anyone can adapt to their wardrobe, as we are seeing it in so many shapes and forms! From man-style oversized boxy blazers to ’80s high-rise trousers and ’90s pleat front mini skirts, suiting is definitely an overarching trend for the new season.

How do accessories play into your looks?

I'm a huge accessory fan—they can make or break a look. When styling back accessories with suiting, I gravitate towards more strong and simple shapes. Nothing fussy or too over the top.

I love that this look is a modern take on the three-piece suit set. Its lavender tone is completely unexpected. The sharp and structured lines of its bustier, jacket and trouser combination create a super chic and modern fit—it's the epitome of no-fuss dressing. Team it with a flat sandal and oversized tote for day or a Perspex wedge and clutch for night.

For me, the building blocks of any wardrobe are all about choosing pieces with enduring style that aren't overly complicated—this look is the perfect example of this. Either worn together as an elegant yet relevant suiting set or scattered throughout your wardrobe as classic separates, you'll find such versatility in this outfit. I'm loving it styled as a full look for elevated occasions, however you could also break it down and team the pants with a tee and sneaker for a more casual weekend feel. Alternatively, try the bustier with your favourite denim and heel for the perfect dinner date outfit.

“For evening wear, I'm a huge fan of styling suiting blazers with no under layer top which is why I'm all about this look! The wide wrap jacket (worn as a top) teamed back with a matching short gives a super directional twist on the new season suiting trend. I'm also excited to take my Country Road jacket to the beach and team it back with my fave black one-piece to create a more modern take on beachwear.”
