Can you begin by telling us a little bit about you and your role?

I’ve been styling for 15 years and am very lucky I have a job where I can be creative—I still love it as much as the day I started. I’m a mum to five-year-old twins, where every day could only be described as beautiful chaos (some days I might leave out the adjective though!).

My days are varied, an ever-changing landscape, which keeps me so interested. I could be sourcing gowns from around the world for a high-end jewellery shoot, or chasing sheep around a field in rural Australia to ensure we get the right shot. It’s a fast-paced lifestyle, with a constant juggle of different clients, short timelines and competing demands. I worked in magazines for the majority of my career—it was a fantastic way to cut my teeth as a stylist, working on multiple stories at a time within a context of short deadlines and other efficiency targets.

I love a tonal look and once you’ve found the right beige for your skin tone it can be such a flattering option. By layering up the same tones it creates texture, elongates the figure and looks so chic. The tee also gives the beige linen suit modernity, rather than pairing with a traditional button-up.

Describe your personal style—what are you drawn to?

I like classic dressing, but there’s always a casualness to the way I put things together—I typically prefer dressing formal items down. I love natural fabrics and tailoring, almost always opting for neutral tones.

I draw inspiration from elegantly dressed grandmas you see on the street. It’s a cool way to appreciate the timeless elegance and enduring style that transcends generations. Their attention to detail, matching sets, heirloom jewellery and accessories provide a glimpse into a rich sartorial heritage. I would often love just to wear exactly what they’re wearing—though style it to reflect my own personality.

A classic trench is one of the hardest working staples you can have in your arsenal. It provides a flattering silhouette and is the perfect layering piece. It’s timeless and adaptable to so many situations—whether walking to the dog or heading to the office.

How does your job influence your style and what you choose to wear?

As a stylist working with clothes every day, you definitely develop a refined palette. I’m conscious to shop smartly and I try to avoid buying into trends. Half of what I buy is secondhand, usually purchased through designer consignment stores. The other half is well-curated, classic pieces that I can rework back with the rest of my wardrobe.

I’m always looking out for a well-tailored suit, crisp white shirt, quality leather shoes or bag and well-cut denim. Comfort and durability are important for me, as I’m often between the office and set on the same day.

Pairing this classic black linen suit with a V-neck tee gives the suit a sporty feel, while complementing the casual fabrication of the linen. A minimal heel and bag help elevate the outfit.
